2010 Day of Caring HUGE Success!
Day of Caring began in 1993 as a general sprucing up of the YWCA campus by 250 volunteers; it has since evolved into a massive effort that brings community volunteers face-to-face with local nonprofit and community organizations.
The 2010 Day of Caring was a huge success! Thanks to all the 1,200 local volunteers and approximately 500 from an area church. That’s 9,000 hours of service put in by all the volunteers!
The great work was evident throughout the community. From the southeast YMCA to the McMillen Girl Scout Camp, from Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home to Genesis Outreach, the landscaping, painting and handiwork were visible all over the county.
In addition to the 63 teams that poured their sweat and muscle into projects, there was fantastic support from Signature Sponsor, NIPSCO, and in-kind sponsors, The American Red Cross, Gordon Food Service, Meijer, Fort Wayne Community Schools, Prairie Farms, Richard’s Bakery, Do it Best Corp. The Rogers Company, Hanson Aggregates, Barb Richards and WAJI, Don Hall’s Old Gas House, Holley Management, Headwaters Park Alliance, Lowe’s, Paint the Town Graphics, Sunking Ice, Inc. and Walgreen’s. And United Way is so grateful to the American Red Cross volunteers who worked for hours preparing and serving our tasty breakfast!
