The Tocqueville Society was created in 1984 by United Way Worldwide to recognize the premier level of leadership donors who invest a minimum of $10,000 annually to their local United Way. The society is named in honor of Tocqueville, a French aristocrat, legislator, prosecutor and author of the two-volume “Democracy in America.” The Paris-born Tocqueville penned “Democracy” after visiting the United States in 1831 and coming away with a profound respect for this country’s spirit of helping others in times of need.
Members of Allen County’s Tocqueville Society give generously because they believe a strong human services system is vital to a healthy, thriving community.
During the 2009-2010 campaign, the Tocqueville membership roster included these residents or foundations:
($100,000-$249,000)
($50,000-$74,999)
($25,000-$49,999)
($10,000-$24,999)
The society welcomes new members.
