Every day, thousands of volunteers and staff at local nonprofits work tirelessly to improve lives in our community. I am inspired by their dedication and hope. Every day, people reach out to extend a helping hand to others. I am grateful for their service.
United Way of Allen County exists to help connect these people and focus their efforts toward building a stronger community. We want to help the community understand the barriers that prevent people from being successful and to secure and put to good use resources of time, talent and treasure to remove those barriers.
Our intent is to bring people together to make progress on improving success in school, promoting family stability and meeting basic needs. Helping local residents get the education they need, stabilizing their lives in times of crisis and meeting their most basic needs for food and shelter – these are important building blocks for a viable workforce that will help drive economic development in our region.
It is imperative that our community recognize that the wide range of services offered by nonprofit organizations is vital to the economic health and development of our region. The majority of these services are focused on developing and sustaining a work force that can meet the demands of new businesses coming to our region. Our future, yours and mine, is directly tied to the well-being of ALL our residents.
These days, philanthropy is not just about charity – about giving leftover money to help the poor. Giving to United Way or any nonprofit is a statement of hope and commitment to creating a brighter tomorrow for everyone in Allen County.
